Our story
New England Speech & Swallow was founded in 2026 with the goal of bringing speech therapy and swallowing diagnostic services to areas underserved by the healthcare system. After witnessing firsthand the lack of available swallowing evaluations in the Western Massachusetts region, founder Dr. Alyssa Llewelyn decided to bring the exams to the patients in need.
As patients waited months for outpatient modified barium swallow studies, the solution became clear: a mobile FEES practice that could perform gold-standard swallowing evaluations at bedside.
About Dr. Alyssa Llewelyn, SLPD, CCC-SLP
Dr. Llewelyn was born and raised in Northfield, Massachusetts. She earned dual Bachelors of Science in Public Health and Communication Sciences and Disorders from Worcester State University, a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and a Doctorate of Speech-Language Pathology from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
The SLPD is a clinical doctorate held by only a small number of speech-language pathologists. Her training equipped her to deliver the highest standard of clinical care and to collaborate effectively with referring physicians, nursing teams, dietitians, and other medical providers across care settings. As part of her doctoral work, Alyssa completed research on clinical education for healthcare providers.
When she moved back to Massachusetts, Alyssa discovered a need for timely, affordable speech therapy. After working in inpatient hospitals in Massachusetts, she came face-to-face with the wait times, lack of access, and insurance obstacles that patients have to deal with to have access to speech therapy.

Dr. Llewelyn is committed to speech therapy that works for you — not for a clinic's scheduling system or an insurer's authorization timeline. That means treatment goals grounded in what actually matters to each patient.
